The Bible teaches that we ought to give voluntarily, with cheerful and grateful hearts (II Corinthians 9:7). Giving, then, is an act of worship demonstrating gratitude for God's own generosity. We are cheerful to give back to God the first fruits of our labors because He did not spare His own Son for us!

Giving is also an act of faith. When we give, we supply the needs of the church and her saints, demonstrating that God's kingdom is our treasure (II Corinthians 9:12). As we invest in the church, her mission, and her saints, we invest in advancing God's kingdom.
